Plan Information

Selected key teaching (specific core concept):

Lengthening and extension of vertebral column to minimize functional challenges like kyphotic process that can cause leaning and instabilities in seated or standing posture. According to the American Geriatrics Society, "Kyphosis...is associated with diminished function, especially performance of mobility." J Am Geriatr Soc 45:1479–1486, 1997.

Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client):

Using an overall but spine-focused practice 3x per week, lengthen and extend the vertebral column. Results are gauged by measuring space between C1 and the floor when the student lies in a supine position. The first measurement is taken in the moments before the first practice and then immediately following the final practice in a 1-2 week period.

Relevant Client(s) Details

Male, 65, MS diagnosis in 2004, hypothyroidism, managed HBP, tendency toward tight lower back, active with regular walking and golf. Chest is expanded and open, as are shoulders, however a kyphotic process is increasing with age, as is knee and hamstring tightness, compromising gait and stability.
