| Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant. | Before IYI, I was introduced to yoga in middle school and continued to practice it throughout high school. I spent a few months in India my junior year with a family and at an Ashram. We traveled with the boys from the Ashram to different locations across India and we all studied and practiced yoga and meditation together. It was an amazing experience that gave me insight into the roots of these sacred teachings. | ||||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda. | I do not have a deep knowledge of Ayurveda which is also part of the reason why I would love to get more involved with this program. | ||||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy. | I began my exploration of yogic philosophy in high school when my mother shared one of her Buddhist books with me. Upon reading the text, I was shocked to find that what was written aligned exactly with how I was feeling and what I was experiencing. Thus, my love for yogic studies and philosophy began to flourish. I always felt that these teaching resonated with me but the teaching really began to sink in and come alive after taking my 200-hour TT and even more so after my Raja Yoga TT. In these programs, we were able to delve into the Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali by Swami Satchidananda and other enlightened masters or scholars in great detail. I began to see these teaching within myself and surrounding me in the external world. I utilize these teachings to analyze my thoughts, support my decision-making, and influence my interactions with others. I'll also utilize these teachings to guide me in responding to students who ask for guidance, have questions, or are interested in sharing their own experiences. By experimenting with these teachings I have found that they ring true for me now more than ever. And I aspire to continue learning and deepening my understanding of yoga studies and philosophy. | ||||||||
| What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on? | Through this program, I hope to learn tools to self-soothe, practices to calm my mind, and a community of like-minded people to love and support. I hope to gain greater confidence in my ability as a teacher and deepen my knowledge of subjects like anatomy and Ayurveda. I struggle with public speaking and would love to feel more confident when helping specialized populations and more serious aliments presented during or after classes. | ||||||||
| Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)? | I have struggled with anxiety and depression since high school and have always found myself coming back to my practice in times of hardship or disarray. After I graduated college in May 2020 my anxiety and depression felt like it was growing in intensity and depth each day, I realized I needed to figure out ways to cope and manage these un-beneficial and debilitating feelings and emotions. I decided to apply for the Level One Training in the fall as a way of working on myself. And have continued with future training programs because it has awakened a passion and love for teaching as a way to help others. I hope to continue to learn so that I can better serve the students. I want to enroll in IYTh to deepen my knowledge and ability to help others with these practices that have helped me so much. | ||||||||
| How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally? | I am so grateful and cherish all the knowledge, opportunities, and experiences Integral has shared with me. I intend to approach this program with a similar outlook-- to work on and better myself and in turn, better serve others in my community. | ||||||||
| Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements? | Being that I'm newly out of college, I am at a very fluid point in my life where I have to ability to adjust my schedule based on my studies of Yoga. I work part-time jobs which allows me some freedom throughout the week and on weekends. IYTh is tied in with my goals for the future making it a top priority. I plan on continuing to work while having my studies and teaching at the forefront of my commitments. | ||||||||
| List any interesting things you would like to share about yourself | I have been taking yoga classes with my mom at Integral for several years now. My mother was introduced to Laksmi for Chakra Balancing. Together we took her beautiful sound healing baths and moon ceremonies. In Fall 2020 I took IYI's Level One Training. Then proceeded to take The Foundations of Therapeutic Yoga and then The Therapeutic Level Two Training in the spring.
