| Have you had a personal practice for at least one year? | Yes | ||||||
| How long have you practiced yoga? Describe your personal practice of yoga and how regularly you practice, including the style/tradition of your current practice: | Consistently for a year and a half. When I entered my 40's I started taking weekly classes at the gym - more for the physical benefits than the spiritual. Even when I first decided to pursue my 200 hour training, my goals were more physical. I have been a follower of Christ since I was 4 years old, and I discovered an entire new depth to my spiritual growth and relationship with Christ when I began my yoga training. As an employee of a local gym (American Family Fitness) I teach a variety of scheduled classes: vinyasa, gentle, yin, slow flow, and a Mossa choreographed program, Centergy. I am drawn towards yin and restorative as for me they allow space to quiet the mind and connect mind and body for me at a different depth. | ||||||
| Do you meditate? | Yes | ||||||
| How long and how often do you meditate? | Daily - anywhere from 10-30 minutes | ||||||
| What other training experience have you had since 200hr teacher training? | I'm completing a 50 hour online training for Yin Yoga, and have registered for both Warriors at Ease Level 1 and iRest Yoga Nidra Level 1. | ||||||
| What other styles/traditions of Yoga have you practiced/studied? | I have not pursued that many traditions as of yet. Candy gave us a high level overview of different styles, some resonated with me and others not as much. | ||||||
| Is English your primary language? | Yes | ||||||
| Essay Questions | Please answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely. | ||||||
| Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc. | My teaching experience is within the context of my job at American Family Fitness. I began teaching in March 2020 while pursuing my 200 hour training. The population varies across all adult ages and physical capabilities, open to all of our club members. | ||||||
| Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs? | No | ||||||
| Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant? | My heart is to help people heal. I want every person I meet to know that, no matter what has happened in their past, their future is one filled with hope. No matter where they are, they can grow and find greater freedom in every area of their life - spiritual, emotional, mental and physical. | ||||||
| Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant. | My husband was injured in Iraq in February 2010, and since that time I have become his primary caregiver. Having gone through some targeted training for that role through Easter Seals, I've been on a personal journey of learning to support and encourage him through chronic pain and PTSD. | ||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda. | I have a very limited understanding of Ayurveda, but would very much like to study further. | ||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy. | My understanding is at an introductory level. Candy gave us a solid foundation upon which to build in exploring the 8 limbed path and an overview of history. I am a very young yogi on my journey but I am desperate to grow and learn. | ||||||
| What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on? | I want to learn, I want to grow as a person, as a yogi, and as a guide. I want to learn everything I can about philosophy, styles with which I am currently unfamiliar. I would love to focus more on ayurveda and wholistic health. | ||||||
| Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)? | Dealing with the Dept of Veterans Affairs for the past 11 years in far greater depth than I ever wanted, my husband has been prescribed dozens of medications as a way to "manage" symptoms. Nothing in a bottle has or will ever help anyone heal and move forward to greater freedom and quality of life. I believe that yoga therapy is practical, wholistic, safe - it cannot possibly harm anyone. (My belief). The more I pursue my practice, the more connected I feel to my Creator and to every person I encounter. I've seen transformation in my husband's life as he develops his practice. I want to offer others the same hope that I have found. | ||||||
| How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally? | Personally I would integrate it into the two most important relationships in my world: my husband, Andy and my almost 16-year-old daughter, Alysonne, who also battles depression and anxiety. Professionally it has not been an element of my fitness center, but I would love to pave the way to bring yoga therapy into a wholistic model of fitness beyond the physical focus of asana practice. | ||||||
| Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements? | Over the past eleven years I have been able to create the work/life balace demanded at different seasons: working full-time and part-time while being Andy's caregiver, then serving as my dad's trustee during his final four years on this earth, and now also for the past year and a half as guardian and conservator for my mother with Alzheimer's. I have been able to pull back my work to being part-time at the gym, enjoying dedicated time every week to pursuing my personal practice and additional trainings. Every challenge has pushed me to grow in my time management skills, and not to sound overly confident, but I have no qualms about being able to devote the time and attention needed to the training. | ||||||
| List any interesting things you would like to share about yourself | 1. I love languages (hence the French major). I also studied italian and portuguese in undergrad. | ||||||
| Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules? | No. I have the flexibility to adjust my work schedule with notice. | ||||||
