Describe your personal practice of yoga and how regularly you practice, including the style/tradition of your current practice: | I have practiced integral yoga for 17 years, 5-6 days a week. I started out teaching one or two classes a week and for the past 7 years, with the exception of this year, I have taught between 8-11 classes a week. Most of my classes were the basic integral yoga, one was chair yoga which I started teaching after the Stress Management TT. I also did some self study in Yin yoga and taught two yin yoga classes weekly. At the end of my classes, I always did a reading from The Golden Present, which the students loved. My home practice, over the years, included Integral Yoga asana, pranayama and meditation on a fairly regular basis. | |||||||||

| Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc. | Over the past seven years, I have taught between 8-11 classes a week, at the Brambleton Center in Roanoke, Va. The majority of my classes are integral yoga. I have also taught chair yoga, gentle yoga flow and yin yoga. Most of my classes, if not the basic integral yoga, follow the format of the basic integral yoga. I also include readings at the end of all my classes from The Golden Present or one of Sri Swami Satchidananda's other books. The students seem to love the spiritual, emotional, physical and and restorative element of the class which leave them feeling joyful and peaceful. The majority of my students range in age between 40-70 and the remainder of them range in age between 15 and 40. 80% of the class is typical female and 20% male. | |||||||||

| Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant? | I have been very active in the medical field having survived breast cancer and having had chemotherapy, and some prophylactic surgery. I know what it is like to be on the patient side and have compassion for what people go through. I have also had a lot of experience interacting with doctors and am very comfortable working at the level. Additionally, I have a special interest in the connection of neuro science and yoga and would like to advance my knowledge in that area. | |||||||||

The type of sales I did was very consultative and it has given me a skill set in which I can work with all types of people, ask relevant questions and help them find a solution based on their goals. I have also given some yoga workshops and have experience leading groups between 10-20 people, which is great experience in presenting information from small to mid-size groups. | |||||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda. | I have a basic understanding of Ayurveda, not that much knowledge and am looking forward to taking the Ayurveda training. I have always been interested in Ayurveda and would love to have the knowledge to apply it in my life and help others apply it in their life. It is always great to have alternative and integrative approaches and choices that may be complimentary for a patient's needs. | |||||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy. | I have just completed the RYTT which was extraordinary! I loved learning about and being and integrating the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali into my life. The 8 Limbs of yoga are both brilliant and practical and I realize that when we live our life utilizing this philosophy, we can put an end to our suffering and experience our divine nature. It is also practical and recommended to incorporating the yamas and niyamas in order to purify ourselves as our energy is awakened. In practicing Raja yoga, we truly have the opportunity to live a life that is easeful, peaceful, and useful and that is very exciting! | |||||||||

What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on? | My expectations as a student is to have teachers that are knowledgeable in their field so that I can learn and have a good understanding of the material to best apply it in my own life and in the lives of my students. Should I need support, I would hope that the teachers would be willing to answer any questions I have and clarify any areas where I may not have a clear understanding. | |||||||||
| Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)? | I have always been interested in helping people get in touch with their peace and joy and live a life of wellness. Health is a vital area of life and without it, not much else is possible. Integral Yoga Therapy is very comprehensive and includes modalities that are both practical and useful. The program offers a path in which I can be useful, purposeful, express my passion and make a difference. | |||||||||
| How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally? | I would apply it first and foremost it in every area of my life. Depending on the needs of the client, be it physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual, I would have the client fill out an intake form and look to see what their needs and goals are and then work with the client or my class to utilize the best modality and adapt it to their specific needs. | |||||||||

I would create a balance in my life in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
