Essay QuestionsPlease answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely.
Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc.

During this past year, my teaching experience includes first practicing teaching regularly with the other students in my 200-hour training during training. I had also practiced what I was learning and taught it to my husband five nights a week and one hour in duration. For my therapeutic training, I taught the women I was paired with in addition to a certified yoga teacher in my theater class, another woman from my therapeutic training, and a woman from my 200-hour training. I also worked with my husband regularly taking him through the therapeutic training that I learned. I took accessible yoga and began doing chair yoga classes with him. The people that I worked with were mostly women ranging in age from late twenties to early sixties. I also teach my husband is a beginner yoga student. This differed in body type and a different experience level.

Which yoga therapy training programs have you taken?

I have taken Therapeutic Yoga, Foundations of Yoga Therapy, and am currently taking Mental Health via Integral.

Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs?Yes
Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant?

As a seasonal park ranger, I have met people from all over the world providing tours, education programs, and done research, and created programs via collaboration with the museum staff. I also completed the fifty-plus hours of training through the actor's fund for the NYC substitute teacher license. I did an internship at a senior center in Flushing, Queens working with seniors and fifth-grade school children in collaboration for an intergenerational theater piece.

Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant.

I have always been interested in body-mind movement. I have studied a lot of Alexander's technique, kinetic awareness, and Feldenkrais. When I was in my 200-hours, I took workshops through Integral on sun salutations and balancing postures. I think knowledge of these other techniques will be useful in teaching yoga and my own yoga experience. I have at times integrated the Alexander technique concurrently with my 200hour teacher training.

Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda.

I know about Ayurveda primarily through my own readings from various books, one being Life of Balance by Maya Tiwari. I have also visited different practitioners for treatments in NYC and Jersey City. I know about the different doshas vata, pitta, and kapha. I know about how this can impact emotional, physical, and mental health.

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

What I know about yoga philosophy is what I have learned in my 200-hour training primarily in Raja yoga, in accessible yoga I read some of the Bhagavad Gita translation by Jack Hawley and the yoga sutras. When I had studied at Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in NYC I had also taken their positive thinking courses. I recall the four locks and keys that were discussed in Raja yoga and the eight limbs of yoga.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

My expectations are to dive much more deeply into the study of yoga and to learn more about its potential for healing emotional, mental, and physical conditions and improve the quality of life. I have been wanting to have mentors in this journey because it is an important part of the learning process. I intend to deepen my own practice and be an embodied practitioner, teacher, and yoga therapist. I want to learn how yoga can be brought to all populations and best serve the communities.

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

Integral Yoga Therapy Certification is a comprehensive program that will provide the structure and stimulation conducive to addressing all of the elements necessary for healing that I crave in a training program. When I am interested in something and passionate about learning, I must understand a much deeper level that Integral will offer.

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

In order to be an embodied practitioner, I must deepen my own practice and learning. I think that it is rather difficult to have a career solely as a yoga therapist. I do wear many hats so I imagine that yoga therapy will be a sideline career in addition to other things that I will be doing. I think that the knowledge from this program will enrich my life and knowledge of yoga.

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

I do realize that there are some things that I will need to put on hold during this program. I am currently in graduate school and have been maintaining a 4.0 and received an achievement award during the modules that I have been taking. My primary focuses are graduate school and yoga. I do have an interest in writing and theater arts, but I realize I will need to put those on hold.

List any interesting things you would like to share about yourself

People have said that I am a character, have a good sense of humor, diligent, sensitive, vulnerable, and an old soul that I should make a living asking questions.

Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules?

My two priorities will be this program and graduate school, and I will be putting other things on hold for now.

Please list three references we can contact regarding your IYTh application. One of these references must be deeply steeped in the Integral Yoga Tradition. Please provide name, position, phone, and email address.
