Essay QuestionsPlease answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely.
Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc.

I have taught various populations throughout the years, including family, friends, students, teachers, senior citizens, patients and staff at community health centers, members of yoga studios, and most recently residents of private apartment complexes. I have enjoyed bringing Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Meditation and the teachings of Yoga to every population. I think the populations that got the most out of Yoga were the teachers and the senior citizens. The following is a list of the current/past locations, time frames and populations:
• Vermella Apartments, Union New Jersey, 2020 – Present. Residents of Vermella. During COVID the class was taught on-line.
• Vermella Apartments, Harrison New Jersey, 2019 – Present. Residetns of Vermella. During COVID the class was taught on-line.
• Harrison High School, Harrison, New Jersey, 2015 – 2018. Students and Teachers.
• Stretch Studio and Café, Harrison, New Jersey, 2014 – 2019. Members of Stretch Studio and Cafe.
• East Newark Senior Center, East Newark, New Jersey, 2011 – 2018. Senior Citizens.

Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs? No
Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant?

My current interests are learning about Yoga's relationship to mental health. I am also interested in the field of organizational behavior. I believe that Yoga Therapy can be helpful in both of these areas.

Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant.

One of the most relevant training's that I have had is coaching. Although I do not practice it professionally, it has given me the tools to help others by listening and asking questions that may help them.

Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda.

I understand that Ayurveda is a holistic form of medicine. I have not studied Ayurveda but I am very interested in the class that is offered in the Core Modules.

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

I understand that Yoga is union with God thus liberation from suffering. I understand that to attain this requires practice and continued study of yoga philosophy. My study of the Bhagavad Gita is ongoing. I have also studied the Yoga Sutras of Sri Patanjali. These are the two teachings that I rely on the most.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

I feel like this is a giant step forward in my practice of Yoga because it will expose me to more needs than just teaching asana. Yet asana is sufficient for many people. I expect that all of the training and my efforts will help me evolve mentally, psychologically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and in health - to become what I have faith I can be. I hope to gain practical knowledge that I can use under any circumstance to promote better outcomes perhaps by identifying or defining problems and making recommendations for solving problems. I hope to learn with and from other students as they too figure their way along life.

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

I want to deepen the path that I am on. I believe that the exposure that this Program will give me to new and deeper studies, and the work with other students in these classes will help me to grow and broaden my ability to live and work more deeply from a life lived in Yoga. It is also very helpful that most of the classes are conducted virtually on-line saving a great amount of time in travel and expenses.

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

I do intend to use Yoga Therapy both personally and professionally. I will use it personally moment to moment in the way I think and behave and what I offer to others. I don't know yet how I will use it professionally.

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

I am currently teaching Hatha Yoga and Meditation classes on most weekend mornings (not every weekend though). I usually have the mornings afternoons free during the week, meaning that I have no current occupation commitment outside of my usual obligations. I currently have the time and space to work on the IYTH program, and I intend to keep the time and space open until after I've completed each course.

List any interesting things you would like to share about yourself

I have been a part of the Integral Yoga community since about 1986. At that time a friend introduced me to Integral Yoga Natural Foods Store, which was located on 14th street. I applied for a job and began to work at the store part-time for a couple of years. Thereafter, I shopped at the store and I always loved going there. This was my first exposure to anything Yoga. In 2007 I decided and needed to make a change in my life and becoming a Yoga teacher was the best way to do that, so I enrolled in beginner's Hatha Yoga class. Throughout the years I and most of my family members have been a part of Integral Yoga - my husband, sister, and bother in-law have all worked at the Natural Food store. My niece became the youngest Yoga Instructor teacher at IYI. I and my husband's family members have have attended classes and holiday festivities at IYINY. My husband and I have attended events and retreats at Yogaville. I believe that the Integral Yoga Institution has helped shape my life and I am very grateful for all of it.

Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules?

I do not have any current scheduling conflicts or any anticipated events that could affect my ability to attend the modules. I teach Yoga classes on weekend mornings for one hour each class (although not every weekend). I would like to continue teaching these classes when they are available to me. If any schedule of conflict should arise, I would with speak with the instructor first.

Please list three references we can contact regarding your IYTh application. One of these references must be deeply steeped in the Integral Yoga Tradition. Please provide name, position, phone, and email address.
