Essay QuestionsPlease answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely.
Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc.

I began teaching in 2012 at a small studio in the outskirts of Charleston SC. The clientele was generally older women and I taught vinyasa and restorative yoga. I then relocated to Breckenridge CO and taught vinyasa yoga there for a couple years. Finally I made my way back east and have been teaching at Carolina Yoga leading the 200hr YTT and teaching vinyasa for the past couple years.

Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs? No
Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant?

I'm interested in diving deeper into the application of yoga as a means of therapy and holistic healing off the mat.

Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda.

I understand that Ayurveda is the science of life and holistic living. Meaning it is a lifestyle seeking to harmonize the body to encourage homeostasis long before ailments arise. Though there are method for dealing with physical/mental challenges along the way. Unlike western medicine, it does not seek to primarily treat symptoms, but instead to create wholeness before manifestations of disease in the body arise. By understanding our innate constitutions, we can better maintain our health with a tailored plan for balance.

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

My understanding of yoga philosophy mainly stems from the 8 Limbs of Yoga. Other texts I've learned from include The Yoga Pradipika, Bhagavad Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, and some digging into Buddhist philosophy and other modern applications of ancient philosophical texts.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

I hope to expand my knowledge of philosophy, the subtle body, & physiological systems while learning practical techniques of application for the modern western client.

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

I've heard amazing things about this program and Yogaville. It is also closer to my location than some of the other programs I've researched.

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

I hope these trainings will foster a deeper understanding of yoga as a whole so I can use the knowledge to better myself as a human and shed light on holistic wellness for others.

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

I am already committed to learning as a teacher and always a student. This will allow me to narrow my focus with the end goal being that I can do what I love and support my family at the same time. While my thirst for knowledge drives me, my commitment to doing what I love and supporting my family seals the deal.

Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules?

I'm still not sure I understand exactly the time frame of each module at this time, I would like to speak with someone to make sure I will be able to meet these expectations.

Please list three references we can contact regarding your IYTh application. One of these references must be deeply steeped in the Integral Yoga Tradition. Please provide name, position, phone, and email address.
