Essay QuestionsPlease answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely.
Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc.

When the pandemic started, I started teaching online classes of Yoga of 12 Step Recovery. In the Summer of 2021 I was asked to teach at the Bhakti Center a flow class and Y12SR. Due to my work Schedule I now offer a Bhakti Essential class on Sundays. My teaching uses the body as a tool for prayer and as I say prayer means petition. As I say in my classes where most western philosophy states that Higher Power is out side of us, Eastern philosophy states Higher Power is inside of us. Since my background is in recovery where self esteem is very low, I want students to see how they are Devine creatures and how to call there power back and reconnect with Self within themselves.

Which yoga therapy training programs have you taken?

Exhale to Inhale Training which was trauma informed yoga and Yoga of 12 step recovery.

Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs?Yes
Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant?

All mentioned above. I am also mentoring our current Yoga Teacher Training at the Bhakti Center. I also study and practice Kirtan

Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant.

Ayurveda Training and Holistic Nutrition Training. Beginner Kirtan Training

Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda.

I took an Ayurveda certification. I look at things in a completely different way. I believe that if people knew about the elements and the doshas the imbalances they can understand why their partner can't stop being messy (vata) or that fire is domineering their emotions we should cool it down. How in order to bring balance we must choose the opposite. Instead of making a diagnosis about them, for instance "you" are depressed, I can say, you are stuck in too much earth energy and we have to lighten that energy up but maybe as simple as adding spices. It just makes you look at the world in a totally manageable way.

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

During my second year of sobriety I fell into a deep depression. I loved Kirtan and came to the Bhakti Center every thursday's for their Kirtan. I would cry every thurdsay knowing that a huge release was happening. I decided to take a beginner Bhakti course and read the Bhagava Gita. This is the connection started to happen. I didn't like or trust "God" as presented in a 12 step recovery program, but I did love the Gita. I loved how it started on a battle field. I loved how the hero did not know what to do. I loved how Karma played a huge factor in my life and that I could let go of the past and start living in the present. Instead of God punishing me, I had to deal the best way I can with my current Karma. I loved how God was inside me, the paramata and I could ask for help (a 4 letter word in my book) but I could ask for help now. I have an alter dedicated to Ganesh where I pray to him every morning and ask for help today. I realized that I kept relapsing because I didn't know how to discharge energy that was trapped in my body. Breath work and movement and staying present in uncomfortable on the mat let me be ok with being uncomfortable off the mat. Yoga philosophy is about accepting everything, knowing that the mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy and tethering the mind to the breath and discharging energy so that when we become quiet and less reactive we can call ourselves home, call in our energy and find a sense of peace even when the world seems like it out of control.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

I expect a very disciplined well thought out program that utilizes multiple skills of how one can be a good therapist. I hope to gain a deeper perspective into the imbalances and the monkey mind that causes us so much grief. And tools to help us find that stillness to so that we can hear our inner guidance. I would like to work on being more tender, less judgmental towards myself and gain a better perspective on how to help with anxiety, fear and conflict that one experiences in living life on life terms

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

I have been the NYC Integral yoga many times. My first sober new years eve was spent there. I have gone to various programs and they teachers walk, the walk. They are true practioner's with a lineage. A lineage that one can trust. I dont want to go to any school, I want a school that it's foundations go back to the beginning. I don't need part time yoga teachers, I need teachers who live the practice

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

To learn ways to help myself and thereby helping other people. Heal the coach (me), heal the student. My teacher said that we can't see our selves when we are in the frame. There is quote that I love which is surround yourself with people who can hear your past so it does not become their present. I want to learn ways to cope with this Kali yuga world and therefore help someone else who is suffering. I want to help people in recovery and in shelters regain their footing, regain their power and help them live to their fullest potential

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

I do have a full time job so I understand if I am not a candidate. I have great time management skills and have the passion make sacrifices of my social time to fulfill requirements

Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules?

I dont know. I will have to see the schedule
