| Have you had a personal practice for at least one year? | Yes | ||||||
| How long have you practiced yoga? Describe your personal practice of yoga and how regularly you practice, including the style/tradition of your current practice: | I have been practicing yoga for 20 years. I usually practice every day. Occasionally I have a day that is missed. The practice changes depending on what my body needs. Some days it is strong, along the lines of power yoga with inversions. I love inversions. Other days if I am experiencing an arthritic flare up, my practice is slow as I slowly work into my body. I include elements of both strength and stretching in my practice. I am currently teaching twice per week. I mostly teach seniors. They have arthritis and knee and back issues. Due to my arthritis, I understand what it is like to have physical challenges in the body. I teach slow flow. We flow, but it is slow, not like a traditional power yoga class. | ||||||

| Essay Questions | Please answer the following open-ended questions fully and concisely. | ||||||
| Please describe your past/current Yoga teaching experience including location, timeframe, population taught, etc. | I have been teaching for two years. I have taught in two studios. One of the studios was a flow studio. I taught power yoga classes there. I taught there for about 6 months prior to the pandemic, and then I stopped. The other studio felt much more like home for me. I taught there for about 9 months until the studio had to close because of the pandemic. It was a small studio and many of the teachers there were Iyengar teachers. The studio had an older audience. I love working with older people. I cared for my own grandmother for the last ten years of her life. As people journey through life their bodies change and they lose muscle mass which can affect their bones. The classes that I teach focus on building strength, increasing flexibility, and improving balance. All of these are important as people age. The smaller studio where I taught had to close because of Covid 19. I have been teaching the same group of people that I taught in the studio over zoom for the last year and half. I am currently teaching twice per week over zoom. I also have a YouTube channel where I am working to provide free yoga to the community. I hope to reach people who would not have the opportunity to attend a regular studio class. | ||||||
| Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs? | No | ||||||
| Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant? | I have interests in bone health, arthritis, and back care. I am also interested in how yoga can be used to reduce stress. | ||||||

| Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda. | During my 300 hour training I took a workshop with James Bailey called, "Ayurveda for Yoga Teachers." | ||||||
| Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy. | I have read the "Bhagavad Gita," "The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali," and "Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving Into the Stillness (Erich Schiffmann)." My study of yoga includes learning about the 8 limb path of yoga. This includes following the yamas and niyamas. Yoga is a process of observing the self, understanding the self, exercising self-discipline, and finding bliss. | ||||||
| What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on? | I am specifically interested in learning more about back health, arthritis, stress relief, and bone health. I hope to gain the skills to teach and empower people to improve their own health through yoga. I expect to do the assignments and learn from the yoga teachers in this program who have much more experience and knowledge than I currently have. | ||||||
| Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)? | I would like to deepen my understanding of yoga and the human body. I would like to help people through yoga to experience better overall health. Enrolling in this yoga therapy certification will help me to better help those I work with. | ||||||
| How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally? | I intend to use the skills that I gain in this program to improve my own health and to provide greater instruction to the people in the classes that I teach. I have also started working with private health coaching clients and I would like to be able to offer help as a yoga therapist as well as nutritional health coaching. Movement and food, and spirituality are all essential to the overall health and well being of a person. I hope to gain the skills to help empower others to improve their own health. | ||||||
| Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements? | I am willing to set aside the time necessary to study and learn and work my way through the program.
