Have you had a personal practice for at least one year?Yes
How long have you practiced yoga? Describe your personal practice of yoga and how regularly you practice, including the style/tradition of your current practice:

7 years. I took my first class during 4th year of undergraduate school. I practiced steadily for several years primarily for sports rehabilitation, and in 2020 I decided to earn my 200 hour teacher training. I was exposed to the diversity of practices and have incorporated most into my personal practice. My personal practice is guided by my activities during the seasons and day to day. I work as a physician so my days can be very busy and fast paces, therefore I practice yin or yoga nidra. When I feel weighted or constricted and need to open mind and body, I prefer a vinyasa or power yoga practice. I feel most satisfied when I sequence my own practice, although videos or classes are very welcome.

Do you meditate?Yes
How long and how often do you meditate?Varied from 10-45 minute formal practices, several times a day
What other training experience have you had since 200hr teacher training?

Raja yoga

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

I base my foundation in living thoughtfully in all 8 limbs of yoga, as well as the yoga sutras of Patanjali. I understand that yoga is a means of purifying the mind, and decreasing mind chatter, increasing awareness, and decreasing ego, fear, and ignorance.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

I wish to hone my ability to build longitudinal programs for students and patients to build their own practice contribute to their care over weeks, months, and years.

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

I am a lifelong learner, and current Family Medicine Resident who wishes to gain more insight into the safe and effective ways to practice therapeutic techniques in my practice. I know my knowledge will serve me in many contexts as I move forward in my personal, business, and professional life.

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

I wish to hone my ability to build longitudinal programs for students and patients to build their own practice contribute to their care over weeks, months, and years. Personally, I can further ground my practice in the science of yoga and develop a strong practice and become a reliable resource for years to come. As a medical professional, I can tailor yogic treatments to patients interested in this practice and seeking new modalities of care. I also intend to serve virtually as I already reach people online.

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

There is enough time built into my Residency curriculum to incorporate trainings. I am currently enrolled in the Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum, and there are many overlaps between the requirements of that training and the Yoga Therapy Training requirements. I have built in 1-2 hours per day of dedicated life-long learning time to complete virtual assignments, and most weekends are available to engage with longer assignments.

Must schedule 2-3 months ahead for required trainings, as I may need to submit paperwork for official military leave.

Please list three references we can contact regarding your IYTh application. One of these references must be deeply steeped in the Integral Yoga Tradition. Please provide name, position, phone, and email address.
