Have you had a personal practice for at least one year?Yes
How long have you practiced yoga? Describe your personal practice of yoga and how regularly you practice, including the style/tradition of your current practice:

I first practiced yoga in the late 1990s at Melbourne, Australia's first yoga studio. The style of yoga taught there was very similar to Integral Yoga. After doing a couple of 10-week Beginners Hatha Yoga courses with Gita, I continued to practice Sun Salutations most days and did the occasional drop-in class. In 2013, I began a very regular athletic practice (Bikram Yoga), practising about 5-7 90-minute classes per week until 2019. At that time I moved to San Francisco (from Australia) and came across the Integral Yoga Institute. Shortly after, I enrolled in the Basic Teacher Training in Fall 2020 and haven't looked back. I love the method and totally believe in the approach and spiritual emphasis. I've immersed in trainings and teach regularly ever since. I now do my own practice daily and weekly classes with teaches I feel especially inspiring.

Have you taken any Yoga therapy training programs?Yes
Do you have any special interests or capabilities that may be relevant?

Active listening, empathy and compassion.

Please list any other training or experience that you think is relevant.

I've mentored yoga students through a Facebook group page, listening and collaborating on yoga care plans for individuals.

Please describe your studies and understanding of Ayurveda.

I don't have much experience with Ayurveda, except for a natural healer I saw in Australia from my early 20s until I moved to the US, who draws on this (and homeopathy) for treating folks' underlying emotional causes of dis-ease.

Please describe your studies and understanding of yoga philosophy.

I've been studying the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita with Integral Yoga through teacher training programs and Scripture Study. In short, I believe yoga philosophy is based on the idea that we all have the truth within us, that we (humans, animals, plants, all matter) are connected, and our suffering arises from misidentifying with our thoughts (and ego) instead of remembering our interconnectedness. Also, through practice and non-attachment, we can keep making contact with our inner peace or oneness.

What are your expectations as a student? What do you hope to gain, learn, or work on?

I hope to learn more about how to serve folks experiencing a range of conditions such as chronic illness.

Why do you want to enroll in Integral Yoga Therapy Certification (IYTh)?

I feel that sharing all I learn about Yoga with folks is my calling. IYTh will help me on continuing this path.

How do you intend to use yoga therapy in your practice, both personally and professionally?

I see myself working with individual clients, in a hospital or other institutional healthcare setting, and maybe in academic research. I'd also like to narrow this down at some point.

Given your current or future commitments, how will you create the time and space to achieve your goals for the IYTh program and fulfill all of the training requirements?

I will plan out when I'll complete the other core modules and select an elective. Currently, my hours are flexible and open enough to accomodate up and coming modules.

List any interesting things you would like to share about yourself

I love Yoga.

Are there any current scheduling conflicts or anticipated events that could affect your ability to attend any of the scheduled modules?

No.

Please list three references we can contact regarding your IYTh application. One of these references must be deeply steeped in the Integral Yoga Tradition. Please provide name, position, phone, and email address.
