| Core Module Name | Therapeutic Yoga 1 & 2 | ||||||
Plan Information | |||||||
| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | The key teaching is a jaw release. According to Arturo Peal, during Therapeutic Yoga training, the jaw release can have many uses. It can release energies of past traumas and can also help relieve tension that has built up in the mandibular region of the face. | ||||||
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | The goal is to teach a jaw release to a client via Zoom. The client will self administer this maneuver nightly, and during times of distress. The client will record the session for possible future review. I will follow up with the client in 1 week to review her experience. The client is an established client in a clinic. | ||||||
| Relevant Client(s) Details | The client is a 22 year old healthy female, except for having panic attacks and headaches that can occur in conjunction with the panic attacks. The client is interested in the intervention in order to help decrease stress and relieve tension in her facial muscles. This tension occurs particularly before a panic attack happens. | ||||||

Report Information | |||||||
| How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | The plan is to teach the client how to self administer the jaw release, during an online mental health clinic visit. She is to practice this maneuver nightly, and also when she feels a panic attack is about to begin. I plan to follow up with the client in one week, to check on her progress and answer any questions she may have. | ||||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | Hatha yoga, the branch of yoga involving physical postures, is being used. Though the jaw release is not an established yogic pose, it does involve the use of mindful movement and the release of tension in the muscles and fascia. As stated above, the jaw release is being used to relieve jaw tension. | ||||||
| Short notes on time with client: | The client was very interested in this new technique, as she has suffered from panic disorder and facial muscle tension since her adolescence. She learned the method easily. We reviewed it twice in the session to make sure she understood. | ||||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | The client may benefit from the use of calming music in the background when she does this practice, as it could be soothing to her nervous system. | ||||||
| Reflection | |||||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | Yes. The intended plan was applied and the goal was achieved. Client learned the jaw release and upon follow up one week later, she noted less clenching of her teeth and an overall improvement in her wellbeing. | ||||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | Since the technique was taught over zoom, it could only be taught in a self-administered way (so client would have to do it to herself). Given that the client is being seen in a mental health clinic, I will likely continue to teach clients this technique in a self-administered way. In mental health settings, many clients feel less comfortable being touched. The lighting of client's room was not ideal, so I had to increase the brightness on my screen. Also there was a bit of noise in the background. Iearned to use the Zoom audio filtering to filter out the noise. | ||||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | I will continue to teach the jaw release in this self-administered way. I can, in the future, discuss with clients considerations about lighting and using a quiet space, but with the understanding that each client has to work within his/her own limitations regarding the environment for the appointment. | ||||||
