Plan Information | |||||
| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | I will teach practices (postures and meditation) to help increase rejuvenate the flow of prana and promote a sense of calm. According to David Frawley in his book, Yoga for your Type, Surya Namaskara "dispels the doshas from the spine and stimulates Vyana Vayu." Vyana Vayu governs the movement of prana through the nadis. | ||||
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | The goal is to decrease anxiety and increase a sense of wellbeing. The client is to practice a visualization of light being breathed in and out of the affected ear. The client is also to perform 3-5 rounds of sun salutation A & B in the morning upon rising. She will perform this practice daily for as long as she finds it helpful. | ||||
| Relevant Client(s) Details | 49 year old female with recently diagnosed labyrinthitis. This has led to a substantial change in her usual daily routines and has caused difficulties with balance and hearing. Her balance had largely improved by the time the appointment occurred. Otherwise, she was in good physical health, practices and teaches yoga on a regular basis, and lives a healthy lifestyle. The changes related to the disease have led to anxiety, which was a chief concern today. | ||||

| How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | I envisioned using the tools that the client already had, being a yoga instructor already, and focusing the plan on familiar elements. The plan is for the client to use visualization and sun salutation repetitions in order to promote a sense of calm and wellbeing. | ||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | The branches of yoga used are hatha yoga (sun salutation) and also raja yoga (meditation). The asana help to renew the flow of prana and the meditation may be helpful to promote healing in the affected ear. | ||||
| Short notes on time with client: | The client was easy to teach due to her prior knowledge of yoga. | ||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | Follow up suggestions would be to add on 3-5 rounds of Sun Salutation A and B at night as well, in order to further promote wellbeing and help the body with the pranic flow before bed. | ||||
| Reflection | |||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | Yes. The goal was achieved; the client was able to practice the asanas and the meditation. | ||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | No. I originally had concerns that the client may not be able to perform sun salutations safely, due to difficulties with balance. However, this was not an issues the difficulties with balance had improved by the time the session occurred. | ||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | In a preliminary assessment--perhaps a questionnaire before the first session, questions about balance could be asked. I would not change anything about our encounter. | ||||
| Will you be uploading suplimental images or documents? | No | ||||
| Upload supplemental images or documents | |||||
