Plan Information

| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | The practice of TY (restorative, breath, affirmations, guided meditation) releases constriction and physical blocks and allows the body to function optimally. Releasing physical holding patterns, alters our mental patterns as well. It also works the subtle body layers when it allows the opening of the energy centers.Ref.:TY,Clampett & Peal/A.Judith
|
|---|
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | In order to change physical and mental holding patterns that create unbalance in blood pressure levels, client will have two meetings of 45 min each and a 2X a week practice for one month (recording), including: affirmations, therapeutic yoga, and journaling before sleep.

| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | Hatha Yoga – the client was asked to practice restorative asanas (annamayakosha) and breath awareness (pranamayakosha), which relaxes blood vessels and reduces blood pressure.
Jnana Yoga – During the sessions, the client is asked to be aware of the sensations in the body, mental perceptions (like colors, textures, etc) and feelings that may come up. This awareness as well as the journaling and affirmation exercise, helped in the process of self-analysis. Ultimately this process will lead to healing in 3 higher koshas and help release holding patterns.
Bhakti – My client is a very bhakti type of person, it’s why I gave to her an affirmation of her Guru. Her devotion helped her (anandamaya kosha). Like Dr. Wayne says “For many, spirituality, faith, and religion are central parts of who they are. They can influence how you cope with trauma, fear, or loss."(How Healing Works)
|
|---|
| Short notes on time with client: | My client reported in the first session, heaviness in her head at the beginning and tightness later, when we were exploring the region behind the heart.
Some of the dialogue during interactive meditation:
Me: How can we release that tightness sensation?
Client: With the hands of my guru.
(She began visualizing His hands opening her heart.)
Me: Any colors or sensations?
C:Dark color. I feel my heart is closed.
Me: Could you ask your Guru what is he doing here and if he has any message for you?
(She didn’t say more words. During the practice I used the healing technique with hands (Training Book TY Level 2, p 152). At the end of the session, she reported that she had a wonderful experience with her guru.)
Second session: she is feeling better than last week. She felt a little dizzy at the beginning , but at the end she felt great!
|
|---|
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | 1.Continue practicing the affirmation that was done at the end of both sessions.:
Put your hand over your heart, next to the skin. Rub from left to right and repeat: “Heavenly Father, I am free. Tune out this fear from my heart radio." Paramahansa Yogananda
The client decided to practice this affirmation after her meditations in the evening.
2.Journaling, in the morning every day, to help in the process of self-analysis and awareness.
3.Yoga 3x week – Practice of Surya Namaskar slowly and with awareness of the breath. “Regular Practice of Surya Namaskar regulates pingala nadi(…). Regulation of pingala nadi leads to a balanced energy system at both mental and physical levels.” Swami Satyananda Saraswati

| Reflection | |
|---|
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | I applied the intended plan, and the goal was achieved.
The plan was to use TY to change physical and mental holding patterns that create unbalance in blood pressure levels. The goal was achieved because the healing happened on all the koshas (What is called “personal wholeness” -How Healing Works)
The throat and heart chakras seemed to me more affected than the other ones. The heart chakra is directly connected to the physical heart and the sense of connection. As she was having troubles with an associate for many years, I thought that would be a good chakra to begin with.
The 5th chakra helped her to express her feelings and release tension. Later she could communicate what was going on to her associate and disrupt their partnership that was making her sick.
She resumed yoga, journaling and affirmation, what also helped to maintain what she gain during sessions.
|
|---|
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | Yes, I had to adapt an asana.
In supportive bridge, she felt some dizziness and I asked her to add one more pillow under her head, and she was fine. The intent was to open the throat and the heart chakras, then the adaptation didn’t disturb the goal.
She also had some discomfort in her ankles when practicing resting saddle pose. We changed it to side-lying resting pose. It’s a “deeply relaxing pose, benefits parasympathetic nervous system activity.” (TY Training Manual, page 129)
This new pose was completely in agreement with my plan. The poses are uploaded in a file.

| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | If I was faced with the same situation and same person, the approach would be the same because the results were very good. But even the same person changes with time, then as a yoga therapist I need to pay attention to the details.
I tried to personalize the therapy, giving to her affirmations from her guru, that she would enjoy and relate to.
I would say that each and every part of the plan worked as a whole to "empower the client to progress toward health and wellbeing" (paraphrasing Taylor and McCall-2017 IJYT).
If I didn't know her well, I'm sure it would be a little more difficult to make a plan that fit so well for her. Maybe I should have more pre-assessment meetings before the first session, which I didn't need in her case.
