Plan Information | |||||
| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | Long exhalation to engage parasympathetic activation to reduce anxiety. | ||||
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | My client will do extended exhalation to reduce their anxiety level for 5 minutes every day for two weeks. My client will record how they felt after each session and will meet with me after two weeks. | ||||
| Relevant Client(s) Details | My client is a 14-year-old teen age boy facing some anxiety issues and takes a long time to sleep even though he goes to bed early. He has an excellent physical condition. He gets anxious whenever he faces some result-oriented tasks. | ||||

| How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | My client will focus on their breath and work on extending their exhalation at least one count longer than inhalation. They will perform this before going to bed and recording how they feel after the practice each time. We will meet again in two weeks to discuss their progress and go from there. | ||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | I used Pranayama (breath practices). Long exhalation engages their PNS (Parasympathetic Nervous System) and thus reduces their anxiety. Regular practice of this whenever they get a chance will immensely help with their anxiety reduction and will bring them to the present moment. They can use this tool at all times, anywhere as it is highly portable. | ||||
| Short notes on time with client: | I did client intake, goal setting, asana, and pranayama practices during our first meeting. We discussed the plan at our next meeting. I chose the plan as it is very portable and easy for my client and my client also showed great interest in the plan. He agreed to record how he felt after each practice. | ||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | We did the practice once together, then he agreed to do the practice on his own and contact me if he has any question or need further assistance. If the practice goes well for him we will have a phone call after two weeks and talk about how he wants to further this. | ||||
| Reflection | |||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | Yes, I applied my intended plan. | ||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | My client had trouble doing this practice regularly. So we agreed to do this practice for at least three to five breaths. That worked well. I figured out that it would be better if I had a phone call before our two-week mark to make sure they were on track with the practice. | ||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | My approach may be the same in the future as I think this is one of the portable practices that one can practice at any time. I may reduce the duration of the practice from 5 minutes to 3 minutes or less and check with the client after a week or so depending on the client's availability. | ||||
