Report Information

How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan)

I planned to give her the quiz for Ayurvedic constitutional assessment by Dr.David Frawley to determine her Ayurvedic dosha. Depending on this assessment and on her dosha type, I plan to give her an information sheet of foods that are recommended for her specific dosha.
I will give her general recommendations about changes in life style that she is able to incorporate into her daily life.
I will teach her alternate nostril breathing to help reduce her anxiety.

What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching?

I will use the hatha branch of yoga to teach her alternate nostril breathing to reduce her anxiety.
The benefits of alternate nostril breathing are cited by review article in the international journal of research July 2017:
Alternate nostril breathing a systematic review of clinical trial by Shreya Ghiya.
I will use the teachings of Ayurveda, a sister since of yoga, to help her balance her constitution.
I used resources given to me in the basic Ayurveda course by Durga Leela with her permission.
Dr. David Frawleys book "Ayurvedic healing"

Short notes on time with client:

I meet with my client. By the time we meet her rash had resolved. She took the quiz for the Ayurvedic constitutional assessment after scoring the quiz her constitution came out to be Pitta. I gave her the pitta food program by Durga Leela, Ba,CAS,AYT,C-IAYT,e-RYT500,Yoga Achara from yoga for recovery with her permission. This enabled a discussion about recommended foods that support her specific dosha. She was curious about Ayurveda and the teachings of Ayurveda, I referred her to the book by Dr.David Frawley "Ayurvedic healing". We talked about the importance of getting enough sleep, rest and to limit alcohol. How important it is especially for a pitta type to avoid too much sun exposure in the summer time.
We talked about in order to built a healthy body, we need to balance digestion, sleep and energy.
We practiced alternate nostril breathing together for 5 minutes.

Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own):

After talking about the the importance of diet , sleep and energy conservation she was able to see how she could apply this to her daily life even making small changes to her daily routine, decrease her use of alcohol, and to make it a point to go to bed on time.
She will try to care out 5 minutes in the morning to practice alternate nostril breathing after she has learned about the benefits on the autonomic nervous system, the cardio pulmonary system and cognitive functioning.

Reflection
Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain.

Yes I did apply the intended plan once I meet with the client. The rash had resolved so she did not feel that she needed to go see her PCP.
The goal of making small changes to her life style was archived by raising her awareness to the importance of a balanced life and how we need to rebuilt our health by balancing digestion, sleep and energy conservation. She enjoyed learning alternate nostril breathing and felt the her anxiety was decreasing.

Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn?

No I did not adapt my plan. I learned that depending on how subject is approached clients are more open to hearing it. For example the reduction of alcohol use is often a ver sensitive subject for people and they don't want to be told that they should reduce their alcohol use but if it is in the context of general lifestyle recommendations is is much easier for them to hear it and even on their own to come to conclusions and make their own suggestions what they can change in their life. I believe that this approach is more effective than being told what to do.
I learned it is helpful to have a handout as it sparks more conversation. She really enjoyed doing the quiz.

If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize.

Yes I would as I was pleasantly surprised how much easier it is if I let a client come up with their own suggestions on what and how they can change their life style rather than me telling them what to do, because then people tend to come up with excuses as to why they were not able to make changes.
Is very helpful for clients when teaching them a new skill to be able to back it up with research, they are much more open to giving it a try when it is supported by research.
