| How did you envision working with the client(s) to incorporate the selected teaching? (Define the plan) | The client has a long history of fibromyalgia , due to her illness she has chronic pain in her hips and her shoulders.I wanted to teach her the JAPA practice to help her realize that she is able to work on her pain, her fatigue and her mood with the help of this very gentle practice .The beauty of this practice is that she will be able to adapt her practice depending on her symptoms and energy level on any given day.With the help of the homework were she will fill our rating scales ,so she can get a sense for her own body and were her limitations are. Based on her own report she tends to overtax her body and then she is in more pain the next day.This practice will encourage her to get to know her body and the body mind connection, once she starts listening to her own body she will be able to read and interpret the signals of her body.Her strength ,flexibility and ROM and mood improves, | ||||
| What branch(es) of IY did you use? How does each support your goal/relate to the key teaching? | I used the IY hatha branch of yoga.The gentle asana practice coupled with breath awareness will help the client to have greater awareness of her body, were she hold tension in her body, improves strength, flexibility , ROM and mood.This will her her to achieve the state of balance and inner peace and reduce the level of pain she is experiencing every day. | ||||
| Short notes on time with client: | My client was exited to meet with me over zoom.She had a good day with very little pain and good energy.I explained to her to purpose of the JAPA practice and she was eager to start practicing.She was positve, optimistic and energized during our time together.She states that she would do the homework and I would check back in in 4 weeks to see if there was a difference in her pain, energy level and mood. | ||||
| Follow up suggestions for your client (whether with you or on their own): | I explained to her that this is a very gentle practice and she understood that is a practice she can adjust to her daily needs as well as the importance of doing the practice by herself daily.She understood that she would fill out daily rating scales so she could keep track of her progress and start to understand were the boundaries of her body are.She said she would check in with me in 4 weeks.I send her the JAPA practice by email ,so she has a visual can remind herself on how to do the practice . | ||||
| Reflection | |||||
| Did you apply your intended plan once you met with the client(s)? Was the goal achieved? Explain. | Yes I did apply the plan as intended once I met with my client.I partly achieved my goal, she understood the practice and she purpose of the practice but she was disappointed how gentle the practice was and she was hoping for a "stronger practice" I explained to her that my intention is to give her a very gently practice so she could do the practice on her "good and bad" days, how important consistency is and that this will help her to get to know her body more so she can start reading the signals of her body and she will not end up in pain the next day.Over time her ROM will improve and her pain level and tension of her body will decrease.With a lower level of pain her mood will improve. | ||||
| Did you have to adapt anything in your plan? What lessons did you learn? | I did not adapt anything to my plan during our session together .What I learned from it is that even thought I had the best intention for my client, she is not ready to do this practice by herself consistently , when I checked in with her 4 weeks later, she did not fill out the rating scales , she did very little practice on her own.She states that she did not feel challenged and she was "bored " by the practice so she did not feel motivated to this on her own daily. | ||||
| If you are faced with the same situation again in the future, would you approach it in the same way? Why or why not? What went well? What you might change and why? Summarize. | While I still think the JAPA practice is a great practice and can help to increase your ROM, flexibility, energy and mood. My client found it very difficult to keep up the practice daily on her own over such a long period of time.I think it would be helpful to check in with her more frequently to help her to be accountable.To make a change in our lifestyle and daily practice takes a lot of discipline and it is extremely difficult for clients to self motivate over such a long period of time, without the encouragement of an "accountability partner "The practice is important but just as important is the energy and accountability I bring to the table as a teacher, clients need more reinforcement to stay motivated and to keep practicing.She states that she could see the benefits of the practice and she was disappointed in herself for not archiving the goal we set.I learned that it is very important not to set the bar to high ,so she client does not see herself as if she failed and disappointed her teacher. | ||||
