| Core Module Name | Foundations of Integral Yoga Therapy | ||||||||||||||||
Plan Information | |||||||||||||||||
| Selected key teaching (specific core concept): | The brilliant function of pain; | ||||||||||||||||
| Goal for implementation with client (Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound relating to the client): | The therapist will meet with the client for before a yogatherapy session to assess the area of pain, the level of pain and severity , the quality of the pain, the duration of the pain. The therapist will ask the client if there is anything that makes the pain better or worse and what the client has done already in order to improve the pain. The overall goal for this client is to improve her awareness of her own body, so she can learn to assess and tune into her own body and stop the activity before it becomes painful and potentially damaging to her body.The presenting problem here is the sacroiliac joint pain ,but also with her history of fibromyalgia, it seems to be an ongoing problem for her ,even on a lager scale.The practice of asana and paying attention to the body movement, stretching and observing her pattern of breath on the mat will help her to identify how much movement and stretching she can do ,before it becomes painful .Also she can learn to observe, if she is holding the breath in certain movements .Holding the breath can be a sign of holding tension or anxiety in her body. When we meet I would teach a 30 min class with centering, asana, breath awareness and medication, but for the purpose of the key teaching that I want to implement , my main focus would be on the asana and this gives me the opportunity to help improve the clients body awareness on the mat ,so she can over time learn and use this skill in all areas of her life to prevent future injuries. | ||||||||||||||||
| Relevant Client(s) Details | The client is a 63 yo female with a history of fibromyalgia, depression, and anxiety.She is now complaining of low back pain and pain in her sacroiliac joint on both sides.The pain got worse after she was walking for almost 2 hours in a horse riding ring , next to a horse to help with therapeutic riding lessons.Her general health is good, she is of average weight.she is asking the therapist in training for help with her pain. definitions : I will call my self therapist instead of therapist in training for future reference but the client is aware that I am a therapist in training.the client will be called client. | ||||||||||||||||
